South Salem Street Bridge over NJT Morristown Line
  Contract No. MOR983400
Replace existing 30’ wide multi-span concrete and steel girder structure with a new 44’ wide single span steel beam concrete deck structure. The existing and new structure spans over three tracks of the NJ Transit electrified M&E line. In order to maintain traffic, the new structure was constructed in two 22’ wide stages. First stage was constructed adjacent to existing structure. Traffic was diverted onto completed first stage, existing structure was removed and final 22’ portion was completed. Due to proximity of river in stage one construction and to prevent scour, a permanent solider pile wall with precast concrete lagging and tiebacks where installed. All new concrete structures where faced with a form liner that simulated the cut stone used on the existing structures along the M&E line. The project had wire wall and temporary sheeting at the stage lines. Prior to any demolition work two new 120’ steel Catenary structures where installed on both sides of the proposed structure. Other specialty items of work where drilled piers and T-wall along with the typical drainage, roadway, electrical, safety and utility work that completes a new bridge and roadway project.
